Each character and enemy in Okage has an Elemental Affinity which affects their offensive and defensive capabilities in battle.

Overview

The three elements are balanced in a rock, paper, scissors system; each is superior to one of the other two elements and inferior to the other.

  • Thunder is superior to Ice and inferior to Fire.
  • Ice is superior to Fire and inferior to Thunder.
  • Fire is superior to Thunder and inferior to Ice.
  • Neutral is neither superior not inferior to the other elements

Attacks against the same element will do a normal amount of damage.

Attacks against an inferior element will do increased damage.

Attacks against a superior element will do reduced damage.

Specials can have Elemental Affinities as well. When at an elemental disadvantage, characters can use these to still do comparable damage although at an HP/LP cost.

Neutral

Neutral Elemental Affinity is almost unheard of, but is treated in battle as having the same Elemental Affinity as the target i.e. will always do and receive a normal amount of damage.

Ari is an anomaly in that he has no affinity for any of the above elements and is resultingly classified as Neutral. This means that his basic attacks will never experience an elemental advantage or disadvantage against enemies and will not, himself, be especially vulnerable to any enemy's attacks. The only way for him to gain an advantage or disadvantage is to use his elemental specials.

Beiloune is the only enemy and only other known character in Okage: Shadow King to have a Neutral element.

Ice

Ice Elemental Affinity is superior to Fire. As a result, Ice element characters will do increased damage to, and receive decreased damage from Fire element opponents.

Ice is inferior to the Thunder element, however. Ice element characters are vulnerable to receive increased damage and do decreased damage against Thunder element opponents.

Ice has no increased or decreased potency against Neutral characters.

Fire

Fire Elemental Affinity is superior to Thunder. As a result, Fire element characters will do increased damage to, and receive decreased damage from Thunder element opponents.

Fire is inferior to the Ice element, however. Fire element characters are vulnerable to receive increased damage and do decreased damage against Ice element opponents.

Fire has no increased or decreased potency against Neutral characters.

Thunder

Thunder Elemental Affinity is superior to Ice. As a result, Thunder element characters will do increased damage to, and receive decreased damage from Ice element opponents.

Thunder is inferior to the Fire element, however. Thunder element characters are vulnerable to receive increased damage and do decreased damage against Fire element opponents.

Thunder has no increased or decreased potency against Neutral characters.
