(Not to be confused with Marlene)

"I am going back! Ah, it is so silly! When we get back to the hotel, make a cup of tea, massage my back, and polish my shoes! You will be my servant for the rest of your life! 'Til your death!" – Princess Marlene toward Ari after her temper being piqued.

As the Princess of the Classified World, Princess Marlene (マルレイン王女, Marurein Ōjo) is highly admired and respected by all citizens that inhabit it. She first appears in the town of Rashelo and is kidnapped by the Bubble Evil King.

Personality[]

The Princess is a girl that radiates elegance and refinement due to her upbringing. As a Princess who has been given all things without her having to work for it, she also demonstrates a greatly domineering, snobbish, and high-handed attitudethe traits that cause the worst clashes with the people around her. Princess Marlene has moments of emotional insecurity and self-reflection, where she voices remorse for her rude and disrespectful treatment of Ari, alongside a will to change. Despite this, she is also a terribly jealous girl and expresses irritation when other female characters show interest in Ari.

History[]

The Princess is said to live in the Royal Capital, a far-off place that has a location that seems to escape people's minds when they're asked about it. Beiloune, the Princess' Steward, accompanies the girl on her many travels as Princess Marlene graces the common people with her presence while making important travels across the World. One such adventure would be her journey to Rashelo's Aquatic Ruins, where she would acquire Heaven's Voice.

In actuality, the Princess is a doll with an obscured origin that once resided in the house of Ari's Mother and Grandparents. When Ari's Mother was a child and eventually moved out of their previous home, the doll mysteriously disappeared. Beiloune uses this doll and Classifies it to act as The Princess, a replica of his lost daughter, Marlene.

Relationships[]

Ari[]

WIP

Ari's Mother[]

Princess Marlene shows a gentle, vulnerable side to Ari's Mother that isn't shown to other characters. While being taught how to cook, the Princess notes wistfully that she hopes to have a 'Mother' assigned during her next adventure--accompanied by being able to start from an ordinary house instead of a castle. Mother's casual and informal way of speaking with Princess Marlene is treated as something that relaxes her instead of something that is seen as insolence. Her gratitude and respect toward Ari's Mother drives her to search for Moonlight Flowers the night before the group's departure. In the Japanese release of the game, the Princess refers to Mother as haha-ue (母上), an archaic term for Mother that places that individual above oneself, showing significant respect.

Stan[]

Princess Marlene and Stan have a rivalry over who owns Ari. Through intense squabbling, Marlene eventually owns 70% of Ari, while Stan owns 30%. With this rivalry, their interactions are often only sour.

Linda[]

Linda and Marlene have a tense relationship, fighting over the Princess' treatment of Ari and how Ari was supposedly far more kind and considerate toward Linda, showing more care towards her than the spoiled princess.

Julia[]

The Princess and Julia hold great hostility toward each other as rivals for Ari's attention. Framed as a Royal Girl versus a Commoner Girl, the Princess makes a point to mock Julia by asking if receiving a cow as a gift would placate her.

Beiloune[]

Beiloune plays the role of the Princess' Steward and is in charge of her schedule, accompanying her at all times. While his role is 'Steward', Beiloune is also the creator of the doll, using it to delude himself and dull the pain of having lost his real daughter in an unspecified accident. Once Ari reappears into the world and the doll flees to the boy's house, Beiloune is angered at his great illusion being broken and destroys the doll's life essence in a fit of rage.

Unused Design[]

Found in the files of the game, there is an alternate design of Marlene. Whether this is meant to be an additional outfit for the Princess or an alternate design or outfit for this Marlene is unclear. However, it may be important to note that this alternate design does share an eye texture for the other Marlene.
